GET INVOLVED

Are you passionate about supporting creative entrepreneurs at MICA and want to get involved?

CREAT/Enterprise

Support businesses founded by MICA alumni by making a seed investment into their ventures!

CREAT/Enterprise seed funds are designed to provide creative entrepreneurs with grant funds in the amount of $1,000, $3,000, and $5,000 to continue developing their business, while also creating opportunities for you to directly support artists, and creatives in building sustainable and profitable ventures, and be a catalyst for a growing creative entrepreneurship community.

The Ratcliffe Center for Creative Entrepreneurship is supported by several generous donors,  which enables us to continue supporting the MICA and Baltimore community in building creative, purposeful, and impactful enterprises.

Our Impact

Oreoluwa Akinyode, Photography ‘25

Oreoluwa Akinyode, the Living Breathing archive of what was, what is, and what will be. Through the use of images, moving images, and text, Oreoluwa crafts worlds where their multitudes have a place to exist. Their work exists as a living prayer, a portal that acts as a catalyst for change. Oreoluwa was the inaugural 2022 JUST/Start 1st place prize winner which helped start their business IREWOLE STUDIOS, where they launched their IRE OMI, the blessings of the waters, woven water photo blankets.

The funds along with RCCE programming support inspired Oreoluwa to move their images from print to textiles. They were able to produce a small batch production run that was pre-sold. They were made in the USA by a family owned artisan business. The collection was showcased at the Baltimore Innovation Center RCCE CEINNOV Lab event that blended the art of design and the application of a public launch off campus in an industry environment.

Justin Remo, Printmaking ‘24

My name is Justin Remo and I am a printmaking senior at MICA and I am a self-published graphic novelist. I have been writing, illustrating, and self-publishing installments of my original series, Dust, for over five years now, and with the help of the RCCE I have turned my passion into my company. In 2022, I won second prize in the RCCE JUST/Start Venture Competition, and Dust Comics was awarded funding through the 2024 UP/Start Venture Competition. I have also participated in the MICA Art Market and conducted workshops at the Baltimore Innovation Center RCCE CEINNOV Lab event.

These experiences with the RCCE programming have encouraged Justin to move beyond his own practice to include teaching other inspiring creative entrepreneurs to build their own art based ventures in the print world through paid speaking engagements.
